Day Ten - Kona Bali Kai

Today we took a day off from being on vacation, sort of.  We had breakfast on the lanai as usual.  Pat went back to bed to catch up on sleep.  I opened my kindle for the first time on this trip.  Amazing - I didn't even read on the long flight from Phoenix to Maui.  Around noon we showered and took a brief excursion to a shopping center two miles away.  We ate lunch at Drysdale's Two (yep, that baseball guy).  Fish and chips were mediocre but filled us up.

After lunch we wandered the shopping center.  I bought a pink sun hat and a purple shirt at a small boutique.  We went to the grocery store for beer, frozen pizza and paper goods.  Our plan was to explore the grounds of Kona Bali Kai, our condo complex.  But it started raining as we left the grocery store.  So back to the lanai to watch the surfers and the birds.  The sun did come out again, but by 4:30 we were too lazy to move.  I did laundry, Pat sent notes to relatives, and we just relaxed.  Frozen pizza for dinner, and more reading.

I don't know if I'll ever lose my fascination with watching surfers.  There were a couple of really good ones today.  The most amazing was a guy in a lime top who was paddling.  He looked like just another paddle boarder till he caught a wave.  He rarely fell down.  He'd just ride the wave, turn and paddle back out till the next wave caught his fancy.

This guy was pretty good.

And this one was better!
